For this project, we used thin pieces of wood for the base, wire for the body, and masking tape to help join the wires at the hips and shoulders.
The kids were pretty interested from the get-go. Inspired by the idea of creating a human form with elongated, exaggerated limbs, they had fun thinking of what position to depict. They covered the wire with varying thicknesses of goop (wall paper paste) and black tissue paper. When the form was complete, and lumps and wrinkles smoothed out, they applied a thin layer of bronze metallic paint with a sponge, as Giacometti's original statues were all made from copper.
