For M, mixing colours naturally lead to a desire to paint a picture of something. He asked me for a canvas, and I was happy to give him one.
“Do you have a pencil? I’m going to use a strategy I learned at my old art class” M
M drew out a simple shape, head and body. He then realized he would need a skin colour. Although he just had some fun mixing colours, he didn’t want to try to figure out which colours he would need to mix on his own, and so asked me for my help. I added the colours in front of him, and he saw the proportions of white, orange, brown and pink. He then took the pleasure in mixing them all together, and deciding it was just right, all because of the little dash of brown, he said.
M then painted himself, his whole body in the skin-tone, and I asked him about clothes, and he told me he was going to paint them on after the first layer dries. “That’s how it’s done.” M
