“You could make an airport, or a lobby, or a cafeteria! You could make a chocolate Factory!... Don’t you think Willy Wonka is funny? He is such a goof.” –Lainey
Lainey finally decided on making a restaurant. She envisioned the floor plan and fine details before she even began to paint it!
“I want to put a really big light inside, kind of like a chandelier made out of pipe cleaners. I’ll need a long piece of wood, Rachel. For the counter.” -Lainey
Quinn helped Lainey find furniture for her restaurant.
“Do you want this for a table? Your people could sit on this.” -Quinn
The next week, Lainey got busy with all her details, arranging her furniture, deciding where people would sit, and adding on a patio area.
Quinn came back with a head full of ideas to turn his house into an aquarium instead. He found some tiny shells which he added to the walls as decoration.
“I think you could hear the ocean in some of these. My mom thinks it’s how the air moves around the shell. “ Quinn
He made tanks and drew murals from the walls, put a sign in the front of the building, and then turned his focus to his one window, with a ladder.
“That’s the emergency exit! When there’s emergencies the siren goes off and the people inside hear it and they come climbing out the window. The ladder is awesome because when you press a switch, it unfolds and when you press the switch again, it folds back up.” Quinn
Jaiden painted the inside of her house pink as pink can be.
“This is a lot of painting, but this brush is working for me really well. All pink because pink is my favourite and I can’t stop.”
I asked her if you could only ever see pink, would you miss the rainbow?
“I would definitely miss yellow, but I would just like it all pink.”
- Jaiden
Jaiden looked through the pile of wood scraps with her unfiltered imagination.
“Don’t you think this could be a magic carpet? Or two arrows if you cut it in half. I can’t stop touching it. Look at the view up here!... This looks like a worm bum, Now it looks like a penguin! Doggie! This looks like a dog. (pant, pant) It’s cute. Oh, it’s the stilts. Get that dog on those stilts. I just love the doggie on the stilties. He’s walking, he’s falling. Aaaaah! It’s so funny.” -Jaiden
After all her selected pieces of wood were painted, she added a few little details to some, and placed them in her house.
“I’m drawing a bed on the worm bum because it’s my bedroom. I’m going to draw a pillow. It’s my bedroom now. That’s my dresser. It sort of looks like a penguin. “ Jaiden
Jaiden turned a little rectangle of wood into a tiny little cereal box, and I showed her a bead that was shaped like a little bowl, which she got very excited about. “You could pretend you had cereal, and already ate it.” I offered to put something in the bowl to make it look full, and show her all the beads which she might want to add. Jaiden chose turquoise glass seed beads for her bowl.
“Beads for my cereal. Maybe grape flavour. Looks yummy. Looks real actually.” Jaiden
Seeing her so delighted with the cereal. I showed Jaiden what some other students had done to make cup cakes, and she wanted to give it a try too.
“Oh look at that. It’s so beautiful. I can’t believe this. I’m gonna do this one, it’s a huge guy. Oh my gosh, it’s so beautiful.” Jaiden
